Neighborhood Ministry
How many times do we hear that “God is Love”? What exactly does that mean? Let’s take a look at Love. Sometimes it is easier to define a word by first defining what it isn’t. Love doesn’t use a fist, love never calls you fat or lazy or ugly. Love doesn’t laugh at you in front of friends… Love does not maintain a list of your flaws and weaknesses. Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians chapter 13 states what love is so well.
I would like each of us to ask ourselves how would our life change if each day we read those verses on love before we started our day. I would like to think that if we sought to love as Paul describes we would feel the loving transformation of a God who is seeking a relationship with us. So of course this begs my next question….How would our neighborhood look if love were the lens we chose to use?
Love is a powerful thing and we need to remember that our God is seeking a loving relationship with his creation and each and every person he created. When we begin to know and feel God’s love that is when love takes on action!
August is a great month to take action in your neighborhood. Maybe you know of some families that might like to pack backpacks for children who can’t afford them. There may be families in your neighborhood that could use these backpacks and maybe you know of a family that would like a blessing for their backpacks. (see Children’s Ministry for a blessing for backpacks)
If you are interested in casting out God’s love through packing backpacks please contact Chris Clist or Beth Miller as their neighborhoods will be packing backpacks.
